Makgadigadi MTB Adventure

Available Dates:

29 Dec 2020 to 2 Jan 2021 — 5-9 May 2021 — 16-20 Jun 2021

When is the last time you did something for the first time? Isn’t it about time.

Then this may be just the opportunity you were looking for. Join us as we ride across the world-renowned Makgadigadi Salt Pans in Botswana.

Starting off on the Southern tip of the pans, we begin the ride from just north of Orapa taking three days to cross over nearly 200km of endless desert wilderness, stopping over at famous spots like Kubu Island and Chapmans Boabab, before ending off with some R&R in luxury at Planet Boabab, enjoying the refreshing water of the Kalahari’s biggest and coldest swimming pool.

This trip will include a road transfer for both you and your bike from JHB to the start of the ride, all accommodation, including two nights wilderness “glamping” on the Makgadigadi, and two nights chalet accommodation, all meals and refreshments, and your choice of road transfer back to JHB or a transfer to Maun to fly home (you will need to arrange your own tickets).

There will be a support vehicle following closely but out of sight, so as not to detract from the experience of solitude that only the Makgadigadi can provide.

The riding will not be technical, but reasonable fitness will be required, this time of year, the pans should be dry, making for a firm riding surface, but some sand will be encountered, so tubeless is recommended, for puncture resistance, as well as being able to run lower pressures.

    1. TaunB says:

Thanks for asking. We are fairly certain that the borders will begin to open from mid September at the latest, but it could be as early as August. So we would say it’s a 99% certainty that the trip will go ahead. In the odd chance it can’t, We will reschedule within a 12 month period. If the future dates aren’t acceptable to You, We would offer a full refund

May i arrange to do not share accommodation and to return to JHB with u? If yes, what is the additional charge? Will our ‘luggage’ be transported from one spot to the next or must we have panniers on our mtbikes?

    1. TaunB says:

Hi Michelle. Yes, you can arrange for your own accommodation, but will need to pay a single supplement. I will contact you directly to discuss this.

No need for panniers, the suoort crew transports the luggage from camp to camp.

Transfer back to JHB is included in the price

  3. Adri says:

If we are only 2 people, what will the cost be? Is the R16000 applicable only if you book 4 pax together?

    1. TaunB says:

      Hi Adri,

Yes, this is a package deal for booking 4 spots, and was a once off. Someone from the office will email you with a quotation for 2 pax

  4. Michael Henry says:

Hi, what does sharing entail? I would like to join with a friend. We’d be happy to share a tent and/or room but single beds. Would that be possible?

    1. TaunB says:

Sharing rooms, but your choice of twin (2x Single Beds) or Doubles, for couples. Obviously we can arrange for individual rooms also, but there will be a single supplement payable when you settle the balance.

  5. Heidi Rea says:

I am interested in joining this trip. If it cannot take place due to the fact that we cannot crops the boarder, I will not be able to reschedule. Can you guarantee a full refund if the trip is cancelled?

    1. TaunB says:

      Hi Heidi,

Yes, as per our booking conditions, specifically amended for Covid 19 related issues, we are offering full refunds in the event that the borders don’t re-open in time. We will also send you an email directly confirming this and giving some more details
